Back Home

What a great trip.  Thursday we drove down to WV in the snow, and didn't get to boat but did do a little boozin.  Friday was way too cold in WV to boat, so we waited till Matty got out of class and then headed to Knoxville.  After a pretty interesting night, we got up in the morning and headed to the Little.  Its a pretty quick run in the Great Smokeys, but starts off with a really fun drop and stays pretty good all the way down the run.  The best part is the water quality.  Crystal clear.  You could see to the bottom of these deep pools.  Really cool.

From there we headed over to the Cheoah, in NC.  This is the part where I have to take time to thank American Whitewater.  Without knowing all the facts (which I now plan to research), I was told that the river was de-watered for like 50 years before AW got scheduled releases for us on the river.  It is a really fun section of continuous class IV, about 9 miles long, with the last two being by far the best.  It is a pretty pushy/creeky run, with some pretty nice holes and a few really fun boofs.  We also were able to get a lower water run on it the following day, on the lower 2 miles, which was really fun.  We then headed over to Natalahla (SP?) Outdoor Center, so I could pick up another boat (new Magnum of course), up to Ashville Pizza & Brewing which I would highly recommend if you love micro-brews and good pie.

Monday we headed back up to WV and got on the Middle Fork, into the Tygart.  It was a good run because it was short enough and easy enough to deal with the 20 degree weather, and winds.  As soon as I get the pictures of all the ice on us, I will post them up.

It was a great trip, as always is with friends like mine.  I can't wait to get back in my boat.

Excitement

The Daytona 500 Sunday had very little, but this guy is right now!!!  Leaving tomorrow night to start the trip South.  And I had a good day at work today for once so now it is going to be an even better trip.  Just have to pray that the people at the green give us some water for the weekend.

The car is packed, just have to load boats in the morning, kiss the GF goodbye, struggle through one more day at work and we are off.  I can't wait.  I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve.

Monkies Throw Poo

It's official, we are going to the infamous green river narrows.  Jim and I are leaving from Rochester on Thursday.  We are planning on running Medina Falls or something in the "greater Rochester area" and then heading South.  We are going to meet up with Andy, Ron? and Matt in Mo-town and paddle some where in West Va. on Friday while Matty does the right thing and goes to class.  From there it is straight to the Green for two days (plus?).  I have to say, although I am really excited I am also pretty nervous.  No matter how many videos I watch of the idiots that run that, I still cant get rid of the chills that go down my spine when I read the description on AW.  But I am really excited....  I haven't been in my boat in over a month.  So flippin pumped.

Good to be home...

Got back in Potsdam last night, and went to town for a little night life.  We were supposed to go to Whiteface today but someone (not me) got a little too wasted last night so instead I am lounging today and riding tomorrow.  We'll see how that plays out.

So I am trying to set up a trip South, and what a clusterf*%k that is.  Team Special Ed needs a trip coordinator, with everyone's schedules so I can figure this shit out.  Paul is going out West, so his schedule with preparing for that is tough, Andy has classes to teach, Jim and I have work to schedule around and Matty Matt has friggin classes.  Our big ambition is the Green, and everyone says they want to spank the monkey but we'll see who really has gorilla nuts when we get down there and look at that thing.  Anyways, trips South are always a lot of fun, so I am really looking forward to it.  Should have my new Green Jacket (Astral) by then too, which will be pretty sweet.

We'll time to send out a mass e-mail to the few people who might actually read this anyways to get this trip figured out.  Guys, get back to me with this stuff ASAP!!!!!

Whiteface

What a great weekend.  Two great days at Whiteface.  Saturday was colder, but nicer out.  The snow was great in the morning, but things got skied off in the afternoon.  Today it was windy and the top was in the clouds but it was warmer, and the snow stayed nice all day.  We spent a ton of time in the glades, which I love.  We also hit up the new runs on Lookout, which are awesome.  Just a great time, but now I gotta get ready for the superbowl...

Cheers!
